The Aeziah Divine Racing Team is grateful to everyone who made it possible for Aeziah to train and access a race bike (a custom-built Metrakit) to compete in races held by the Bermuda Motorcycle Racing Association at the RUBiS Southside Raceway. We would like to give a special mention to Jalon Smith, David Jones Sr. and Dennis Wilson for securing the bike and training, and Ed Cook and Rick Vesley for Aeziah’s first drag bike experience.
The one-day race weekend took place on Sunday, 21st August. During open practice Aeziah’s front brakes failed, forcing him to run off the track. However a new master cyclinder was sourced and fitted in time for race one.
In the absence of a timing system in Bermuda, grid spots are allocated by top speeds with the fastest rider going last. Aeziah took the last grid position for every race with a speed of 69 mph.
Aeziah competed in three races where he took the hole shot in 2, and in the 3rd, took the lead at the second corner. In race 1, he was chased by Bruce Degrilla closely on his back wheel for 2 or 3 of the 10-lap race but after fighting to keep up, eventually eased off and Jalon Smith took over in P2 with Jediah Cumbermack in P3. It was a similar situation in races 2 and 3, with Aeziah extending his lead further as he got more comfortable on the bike and track.
Aeziah enjoyed returning to his home track and being in the mix with former peers and new riders. He looks forward to returning to Bermuda more frequently and playing a role raising awareness for the new era of Bermudian motorcycle racers competing internationally.
