In qualifying, Aeziah wanted to improve his throttle trace going into Church and Goodwood and hit some fast laps early in the session in case it began to rain. His pace was improving and was lapping in a few different groups throughout the session but felt he could do more if he had a clearer track in front. floated between P16-20 for a while before some riders picked up quicker times on their last lap. He qualified in P24 with a time of 1:25.236, a gap of 2.857 to the front.
Race 1
Aeziah didn’t have a great start but closed in and throughout the race was battling with the group fighting for 19th. He learnt a lot and noticed certain areas where I was stronger. I found I had the pace to lead the group at times and was in P19 for part of the race. He eventually crossed the line in P20. His lap times continued to come down to a 1:24.459, putting him P18 on the grid for Sunday’s race – his best grid position this season.
Race 2
Aeziah started Race 2 from P18 and got off to a better start, putting him in the group battling for P13. The riders were consistently changing positions each lap in this group.
Unfortunately, on lap 10 while in P17, he hit the high inside kerb at Cobb which unsettled the bike and caused his air vest to go off, pushing him off the side of my bike and taking me out of the race.
Despite not finishing the race, Aeziah was happy that he walked off the track without any injuries and demonstrated his potential as he is getting more comfortable on the moto3 and British circuits.
