Round 1: Lydd Kart Circuit, Kent

FAB-Racing’s 2022 season opener – complete!

We arrived at the track on Thursday to sleet & strong winds that almost sent the awnings flying! We went back to the circuit on Friday morning and were able to set up for the weekend. The circuit was covered in snow so we had no idea what to expect for the weekend.

The weather eventually settled on Friday afternoon for the track to open but we ran into mechanical challenges with the bike and unfortunately, Aeziah missed Friday and Saturday’s free practice. Thankfully, he got out for Q1 and Q2 where he was able to get a solid feel for the track and bike, qualifying P5 in Q1 and P6 in Q2; managing a grid position of P6 for the races.

Race 1: Saturday afternoon was cold but dry. Aeziah had a good start and climbed to 4th off the line. He didn’t have the pace to keep with the front group but held a strong midfield position and crossed the line in P5.

Race 2: Sunday morning was warmer and a better day for racing. We did some suspension and gearing adjustments to try to help Aeziah to push forward. He didn’t have a great start but felt much more comfortable on the track and got more familiar with better racing lines while enjoying some good battles. His pace improved and he finished again in P5.

Race 3: This was Aeziah fastest session. He was happy to take a PB and break into the 45s. He had fun battling FP Racing #199 for 5th for the whole race and finished P5.

Aeziah was satisfied with 3 top 5 finishes this weekend but knows he has the ability to be fighting further up. He learnt a lot over the weekend despite the setbacks and is looking forward to getting the work done for Round 2 next month.

Thanks a lot to Leon and Elliot for all your help and great advice this weekend. He hopes to see you soon. Thanks also to @akibbott for the support and guidance as always. It was great to have Aeziah’s first riding coach, @arichards87, out to watch and support this weekend as well. Thanks for coming.

Finally, thanks to Mid Devon Motor Co and his sponsors for their support and belief in him.
